Starless Knight

I joined my first church youth group at thirteen years of age. My nerves were on a razor’s edge. Is that girl looking at me—why is she looking at me? After weeks of attending, a popular leader approached me; whose explosive works had led many people to Christ.

I agreed to join his discipleship program. He taught me how to fight as a Christian. But as our friendship grew, something felt off, so I slowly began to distance myself.

Months passed, and his true nature finally surfaced. His anger tore through the youth group. His words caused division, and people began to leave. Eventually, he was forced to resign. He was ultimately dragged away by his flesh and Satan. Many were hurt deeply and left the group, yet despite his failures, his program helped me build a solid foundation in Christ.

Unfortunately, there are many similar stories and much worse within the Church. A ministry can be explosive. The leader or pastor is a warring knight, yet there is no light inside (2 Timothy 3:5). Their souls become darkened, and they eventually betray others. These leaders are led away by their flesh and Satan. People are injured, and some even lose their faith in Christ.

We should never allow a trusted friend, leader or pastor to permanently weaken our faith. Yes, the prior statement can be perceived as harsh, but we are called to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16). We will all have to give an account for our time on earth (Romans 14:12).

A similar scenario is found in Legacy of the Kings through Darno and Farel. They take Andrius under their wing for training in LOTK. The dwarves even save many with their explosive “dragon’s breath” in LOTKS. Despite their good works, they are dragged away and Sahib infiltrates their minds in LOTKR.

“Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness.”

Luke 11:35
