The Hero

Everybody likes a hero. For some, it’s their parents, a firefighter, the police… a politician (antihero?). Others may enjoy fictional characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, or Goku.

Regardless of your favorite hero, they all share a common theme. A true hero strives to be good. They battle against the evils of this world. They overlook their own safety for the protection of others—even sacrificing their lives at times.

In LOTK (The Blessing) a king enters the story in the prologue. King Meldon is described as righteous, peaceful, and pure. He is also wealthy and powerful, but his greatest treasure is his queen.

One day, Queen Isabella is stolen by Drystan. Meldon leaves his kingdom to rescue her. The king ultimately sacrifices his life to save his bride.

Meldon (name meaning “cross on the hill”) is Christ, and the queen, Isabella (name meaning “devoted to God”), is humanity and eventually the Church. Drystan (name meaning “full of sorrows”) represents sin.

Through disobedience, sin came into the world and separated us from God (Romans 3:23). Jesus Christ came to rescue sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). He ultimately sacrificed His life to save us (John 3:16).

The story of salvation was crafted into the prologue, but Christ’s death was only the beginning. Jesus rose from the dead, and He has empowered His bride to do great things. Although saved, there is still an enemy lurking to destroy us.

“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.”

Revelation 19:11
